In a Nutshell:

Over the past three years, I’ve casually mentored several people into facilitating and leading Circling via getting them to read some content, talking through deeper concepts, co-facilitating immersions, and debriefing afterwards. I’ve loved this. Personally, the journey of learning and practicing facilitation has helped me grow way more than just participating and it’s more fun. I’ve found that people interested in leading Circling are often down to go deeper, to truly embody the principles, and integrate them into their lives.

This fall I will mentor a cohort of six epic humans to lead and facilitate Circling. We will have three in-person weekend trainings, weekly online training calls, 1:1 support sessions, and build up to co-leading a weekend Circling Immersion together. Apprentices will all be challenged and supported to step into leading Circling in their communities.

Thanks to the people that have poked me asking for a more formal training while I’ve hmm’d and huh’d about it. The idea has never fully clicked until now. So here we go! Maybe this will be great or maybe it will suck, let’s see.

What to Expect

• Three live facilitator trainings (Salt Spring Island or Victoria, depending on where most people live)

  • September 23 - 24 (9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday)

  • October 21 - 22 (9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday)

  • November 30 -December 1st (9am-5pm Thursday and Friday, followed by the Circling Immersion beginning at 6pm)

• Weekly Training Calls via Zoom

  • Wednesdays 7-9PM PST (Sept 20 - Dec 13th)

  • During these calls we will check in, circle each other, practice facilitating, give and receive feedback, and support each other to lead circles in our own communities.

  • Part of one call per month will be devoted to giving Garrett feedback on his shadows / character defects and assigning him personal homework to work on it. This is meant to help maintain healthy power dynamic hygiene.

• At least three 1:1 support sessions, plus having Garrett on call. Sessions can be focused on coaching your Circling leadership skills, debriefing what’s coming up for you in the apprenticeship, receiving compassionate inquiry, or help planning/promoting Circling events in your community.

• Co-facilitate a Circling Immersion together (Salt Spring Island or Victoria, depending on where most people live)

  • Friday Dec 1st 6-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 9am-5pm

  • As a team, we will lead a Circling Immersion together from start to finish. This includes the whole business side (planning the dates, venue, webpage, event description, promotion, crunchy conversations about money), planning the schedule, facilitating the event, and debriefing a lot throughout the immersion and afterwards.

• Lead Circling events in your community with support and accountability from Garrett and the group.

Expectations of You

• You are committed to pushing your edge of realness, honesty, revealing yourself, and self disclosure with our cohort group.

• You are committed to staying in relationship with everyone in our cohort, at least for the duration of the apprenticeship. Inevitably, conflict will arise, we will all get triggered (a lot), and you may want to leave. It’s ok to take a break or some space, but the commitment is to always return to connection.

• We are all accountable to doing personal development work on the side. We will do fun things like choosing “shadow names” for each other and assigning each other homework to stay accountable to our personal healing and growth journeys based on what comes up together.

• You are committed to being mindful of how your wounds in relationship with parents or authority figures come up with the mentor (me). This being said, you are totally welcome to be triggered by me and encouraged to call me out on my shit too.

• You must attend all of the training weekends and the co-led circling immersion.

• You must attend at least 10/13 of the weekly zoom calls.

• You agree to not sexually or romantically advance with students or participants of any Circling related events that you are a part of leading for at least 3-months after the event. If something does arise with someone after the 3-month boundary, you must receive the blessing from at least three integral people before advancing with that individual.

Garrett’s Commitments

• I will do everything in my power during these three months to development your skillfulness as a leader and facilitator of Circling.

• I will pay for coaching from top international Circling leaders before and during the apprenticeship to guide and anchor me in the intention of delivering a world class facilitator training.

• I will model being the most revealed and self disclosed person in our cohort (good luck if you want to challenge me on this).

• I will model taking honest critical feedback from you all and be accountable to working on my shit that comes up. One way we will practice this is through monthly leader shadow feedback and accountability meetings.

• I will lean into my edge with supporting, challenging, and loving all of you - giving you everything I’ve got.
